Learning With Your iPod

Although I first intended to use my iPod solely to manage my music collection (what a joy to be able to carry around all my favorite songs in one small gadget!), I have found that the most interesting and exciting use for the iPod is in subscribing to educational podcasts.

I spend an hour - sometimes two - in the car every day, and that time can now be put to good use. I have found podcasts about every subject under the sun, appropriate for myself, my husband and my kids. These are some of our current subscriptions:

Learning languages

We are learning German and brushing up on our French speaking skills by subscribing to some language podcasts. There are many available - pick and choose a couple and try them out to see if they are right for your ability level.

Vocabulary

We found an excellent podcast from a top US university which improves your vocabulary with the use of snappy songs and jingles. The kids love this one!

Quotes

I love - and am inspired by - quotations. I have 3 or maybe 4 podcasts which select (and sometimes discuss) quotes and what we can learn from them.

Motivation

Everybody needs some motivation sometimes to keep them on the straight and narrow, and there are some excellent motiational podcasts out there! Again, try a few to find the ones which resonate with you.

Financial markets

There are a number of podcasts available which will summarize the events of whichever financial markets or financial products you are interested in. Pick your providers carefully, though - just because they are providing advice, doesn't mean that it is good advice!

Current events

It can be hard to keep up with current events just be reading the papers, but there are now some excellent current event podcasts which will keep you in touch as well as disucssing the latest news.

Literature

If you have missed out on some of the great literature, you can now download many wondeful classic books and listen to them on your iPod. What a great way to make your exercise sessions or commute pass faster!

Audio books in general

Practically all current publications are now available in audio book form for very reasonable payments. If you don't have much reading time, this can be a great time to keep on top of the latest business books - or whatever interests you.

Feng Shui and other interests

I am picking up feng shui tips, learning about EFT, practising meditation and picking up the basics of NLP - all on my iPod!

In conclusion, the sky is your limit when it comes to learning on your iPod! If you are interested in learning something, there is almost certainly somebody already providing you with the ability to take your studies further. Not all podcasts and audio books are great - but at the moment most are free to try and easy to unsubscribe from if you change your mind, so it can't hurt to give it a go!
